Sr. Director – Operational Excellence – Georgia Institute of Technology – Atlanta, GA

Description

Develop and execute internal and external Operational Excellence initiatives within the Administrative Services Center (ASC). In coordination with the Executive Director, responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the delivery of large-scale organizational readiness, continuous improvement, and program and portfolio activities that support ASC operations and services. This position will directly lead three or more Operational Excellence units. Work with ASC functional teams to ensure service and quality standards for external customers. Responsible for teams that design and deliver ASC operational process lifecycle improvements and to build this competency among ASC staff.

This position will interact on a regular basis with: ASC leadership and staff, partners across the Institute, and interdependent service delivery partners.

This position typically will advise and counsel: ASC leadership and staff, College/Unit leaders, and central administrative unit leaders.

This position will supervise: Operational Excellence staff

Job Duty 1 –
Ensure all aspects of the Operational Excellence function are focused on providing the resources and expertise needed to support ASC functional units in the delivery of best-in-class services and the effective execution of administrative processes and procedures for external customers.


Job Duty 2 –
Lead and direct the daily operations of the Operational Excellence function, which includes continuous assessment and improvement, knowledge management and dissemination, change management and communication, and program and project management.


Job Duty 3 –
Create and maintain an engaging, collaborative, performance-focused work environment; promote a learning culture to facilitate development of operational excellence functional expertise, quality management, and customer service.


Job Duty 4 –
Actively participate in respective governing body meetings and encourage constructive feedback.


Job Duty 5 –
Lead and manage unit personnel including hiring, performance, budget, and other duties as assigned.

Job Duty 6 –
Act as a key liaison with Georgia Tech Internal Auditing, schools/colleges/units, and other key partnerships.


Job Duty 7 –
Plan, collect, analyze and report performance data and assess that data against expected outcomes (established in service and operating level agreements) for the purpose of auditing and improving ASC administrative processes and workflows.


Job Duty 8 –
Manage training, development, and documentation for administrative systems and processes; coordinate and manage programs and projects within the ASC portfolio.


Job Duty 9 –
Communicate and prepare internal and external customers for operational changes in order to establish and sustain a mindset and culture of operational excellence across the Institute.


Job Duty 10 –
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Organizational Development, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Required Qualifications
Change management (CCMP) or equivalent certification.

Required Experience
Eight to ten years of managerial experience in shared services operations, organizational readiness/change management, continuous improvement/operational excellence, quality assurance, or related field.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
At least one of the following certifications: process improvement (Lean, Six Sigma Green Belt level or higher), American Society for Quality certification (CQM, CQE, or CQA), project management (PMP) or equivalent certification.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development or related field.

Preferred Experience
8+ years of managerial experience in shared services operations, organizational readiness/change management, continuous improvement/operational excellence, quality assurance, or related field.
