The successful candidates will have an integral in redesigning critical learning strategies to help us develop and grow the careers of our colleagues. You will demonstrate a strong sense of team and collaboration and will collaborate with business to identify organizational development and employee development needs and solutions. * This position is classified as FLSA exempt, therefore it is not eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of a 40-hour work week.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities

  • Bring forward best practices and innovative solutions to the Port by networking with external peers and keeping up to date with latest trends in talent and organizational development programs.
  • Consult with department leaders to assess training needs and match the need with appropriate solutions.
  • Develop strategies to retain talent by facilitating both new and existing learning & development programs.
  • Use your knowledge of adult learning to research, design, and develop training resources for a variety of employee programs, such as professional and leadership development, interactive onboard experiences and facilitation of team learning sessions. 
  • Play a key role in the development and delivery of curriculum and learning materials for performance coaching and first-line supervisors.
    • Deliver workshops and other learning events to support professional and management development needs. 
    • Utilize multiple delivery formats, including instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, and written materials. 
    • Source and partner with outside vendors to address customer requests and design and develop custom courses. 
    • Assess, design and lead innovative continuous improvement solutions to support individual, team, business unit and organizational effectiveness.
    • Conduct learning needs assessment and solutions using learning models e.g. ADDIE, SAM, Agile Learning.
    • Oversee eLearning program on our Cornerstone SaaS platform including maintaining the library with fresh and engaging content. 
    • Remain current on adult learning trends, diversity, equity and inclusion, assessment and learning methodologies.
    • Continue to grow yourself and others by conducting research and bringing ideas that will enhance successful professional development programs.

Minimum Requirements/Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in human resources, organizational development, adult education, business, psychology or other related field OR any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties is required. Masters degree in adult development and learning is desirable.
  • Five (5) years’ progressive experience in curriculum and instructional design and development of learning programs and/or in organizational development is required.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources functions and business practices is helpful.
  • Experience with organizational development and effectiveness, and team development strategies and performance management is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of adult training development, design and delivery, eLearning and training evaluation is preferred.
  • Experience with development and delivery of instructor-led, eLearning and blending approaches is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Articulate or Captivate or other online training building platforms is nice to have. 
  • Human Resource-related certification (e.g. PHR, SPHR), DiSC and Hogan assessments, and/or performance coaching certification is helpful.
  • Proficiency with standard software applications with an above average level with; Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook, and learning management systems is needed.

  • Dynamic public speaking/presentation skills with the ability to perform group training and meeting facilitation.
  • Skilled at conducting individual and team assessments.
  • Well-organized with the ability to track training and meeting logistics coordination.
  • Willingness to promote safety as a guiding principle and a regular practice in accomplishing work.
  • Proven team plays who shows the utmost respect for others.
