Job Summary:

Provide organization development consulting to schools/units in order to meet organizational needs. Consulting responsibilities may entail focus on inclusion, innovation and engagement, designing and implementing large-scale change efforts, process improvement efforts, strategic planning, and leadership development.

Primary Functions:

Reporting to the Director of Executive and Organizational Effectiveness (EOE), provide organization development consulting to Harvard schools and departments. Consulting responsibilities include working with departments to foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and engagement, designing and implementing large-scale change efforts, process improvement efforts, strategic planning, leadership retreat design and facilitation, and delivery of leadership workshops for diversity, inclusion and belonging.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as OD consultant to administrative leaders, including but not limited to: working with departments to foster a culture of inclusion, innovation and engagement; designing and implementing large-scale change efforts, process improvement efforts, strategic planning, leadership retreat design and facilitation, and delivery of leadership and management workshops.
  • Develop and implement organization development solutions in partnership with related HHR departments and local school/unit leadership.
  • Define the requirements of a given initiative or project, develop a work plan, and recruit/enlist key partners and stakeholders.
  • Lead effort to deliver a 6-workshop diversity, inclusion and belonging series to university executives.
  • Manage the day to day implementation of large-scale University-wide OD projects, tracking and reporting status and outcomes.
  • Craft communications, reports and/or presentations as a possible deliverable of any given project.
  • Collaborate with relevant Center for Workplace Development (CWD) colleagues in developing intervention strategies.
  • Collect, share and publicize resources, tools and best practices for key initiatives, and convene relevant communities of learning.
  • Represent CWD and HHR on University and external committees.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Typical Core Duties:

  • Plan, design, and implement comprehensive organizational development programs and sessions for areas such as such as innovation, employee engagement, diversity, inclusion and belonging, change management; strategy development; organization design; retreat design and facilitation; and leadership development
  • Define the requirements of a given initiative or project, develop a work plan, and recruit/enlist key partners and stakeholders
  • Manage the day to day implementation of large-scale University-wide OD projects, tracking and reporting status and outcomes
  • Deliver workshops and trainings as needed
  • Craft communications, reports and/or presentations as a possible deliverable of any given project
  • Collaborate with relevant colleagues in developing intervention strategies
  • Represent area on University and external committees
  • Ensure compliance with University Human Resources policies, procedures, and requirements and applicable legal regulations

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required

Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Master’s degree in organizational development (or related area) preferred along with seven years OD consulting experience.

Demonstrated excellence in consulting skills.

Demonstrated program design and delivery skills, particularly in the area of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity.

Demonstrated ability to quickly assess organizational needs and culture and implement appropriate interventions.

Demonstrates insight and creativity and offers options and solutions when approaching issues or problems.

Effective communication and influencing skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly and concisely share information and ideas with a range of leadership audiences.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Capacity to develop and maintain strong professional relationships across the organization and to work collaboratively with colleagues.

A flexible “can do” attitude and approach to the work.

Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise discretion and tact.

Working Conditions:

This position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this role will begin remotely. The remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and the supervisor determine that it is appropriate, we look forward to welcoming the new hire to campus. At that time, the employee will be required to move work location to the Cambridge campus as a condition of continued employment.
