The Organizational Development (OD) Consultant works on a project basis and provides training, executive coaching and consulting services to member and non-member organizations. Activities include organizational, work team, and individual leadership assessments; design and facilitation of strategic planning processes, retreats, and team capacity building retreats and interventions; leadership and executive coaching; and conflict resolution interventions.

 Position Summary:

The Organizational Development Consultant (Project Based) will make an impact on organizations by helping to grow their leadership capability, improve team effectiveness, create healthy organizational cultures, tackle challenges, and bring about lasting change and sustained organizational performance. The OD Consultant works on a project basis and provides training, coaching, and consulting services to member and non-member organizations.  JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES – the ideal candidate will possess knowledge, experience, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated adaptability to adjust their approach or recommended solutions to fit the specific situation or circumstance of an organization.

  • Provide analysis, interpretation, observations, and recommendations based on client interviews, documentation, individual and organizational assessments.
  • Design and collaborate with organizations to implement a variety of leadership, culture, team, and organizational effectiveness interventions including facilitation of team retreats and meetings. DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) and strategic planning, and professional skills and leadership development.
  • Provide individual and leadership coaching to support client objectives.
  • Assess circumstances, provide practical guidance, and facilitate resolution of employee conflicts to help rebuild damaged working relationships within organizations.
  • Work with the Training Manager and Corporate Training and Events staff to provide subject matter expertise, design, train and facilitate groups in a variety of HR and OD related topics.
  • Collaborate with peers cross departmentally in support of organizational and departmental goals.
  • Maintain strong and positive business relationships with member companies.


  • 5+ years’ experience as an internal or independent organizational development practitioner, including experience engaging with clients at all levels within an organization using a consultation process that builds trust and credibility, enables an accurate assessment of the need, and designs an effective intervention that results in desired outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as human resource management, communication, psychology, industrial-organizational psychology, or organizational development. Master’s degree is preferred!
  • Certification in one or more of the following: personality/trait assessment, mediation, or conflict resolution, 360 leadership assessment tools with coaching, executive or leadership coaching, Denison or other similar organizational culture survey, DEI.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering management and leadership training in using experiential methodology and adult learning principles, needs assessment and surveys. Experience consulting with and advising mid-level and front-line management through executive level leaders and senior management. Experience should include individual and leadership coaching, conflict resolution, DEI initiatives, team facilitation, strategic planning and/or related activities.
  • Experience consulting with municipalities, non-profits, for-profits, and small to large organizations.

 Employers Council encourages continuing education, maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, and maintaining knowledge of organization-wide operations.

POSITION STATUS:  Part-time / Project Based (ability to work remote OR report to an organization)

SALARY:  $55.00 – $80.00 per hour depending on the project
