This new addition to the City’s Management Team is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and forward thinking professional to build on existing efforts to institutionalize DEI principles in all city policies, decision-making and services. This position will be critical in building effective relationships with the community and community partners on core DEI values.
The ideal candidate for the position of Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer will have experience in the management, design, implementation, assessment and advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion goals and objectives and workplace culture change; organizational development strategies and initiatives; leadership development and coaching.
This position requires an individual who can establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, department directors, elected officials, and the public; have effective decision-making skills and the ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
Desired personal characteristics include excellent leadership skills, ability to work with a diverse group of professionals, confidence to seek input from others, tenacity to drive measurable impact.
Education and Experience
Candidates for consideration will need to have a passion for DEI work; awareness and understanding of DEI principles. Demonstrate cultural competence in spoken and written communication. Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college. Minimum of 10 years of experience required preferably in social justice, psychology, public administration, human resource management or related field. Demonstrated experience in leading diversity, equity and inclusion goals and objectives. Considerable leadership experience with building partnerships and community engagement.
